What is Chickeneering?
Chickeneering is a development methodology unknowingly practiced by Designers , Programmers and Project Managers on all kinds of IT Projects the world over
Its trying to complete a project whilst running round like a headless chicken and doing everything at once in the wrong order.
Its being led by an inexperienced Project Manager who cant see the wood for the trees, who whilst running round trying to secure heroic status, fame and fortune just clucks everything the cluck up!
Working on a chickeneering project can feel like the sky really is falling in.
Its a bit like CMMI Level 1 but more chaotic
[CHICKENEERING] processes are usually ad hoc and the organization usually does not provide a stable environment. Success in these organizations depends on the competence and heroics of the people in the organization and not on the use of proven processes. In spite of this ad hoc, chaotic environment, [CHICKENEERING] organizations often produce products and services that work; however, they frequently exceed the budget and schedule of their projects.
[CHICKENEERING] organizations are characterized by a tendency to over commit, abandon processes in the time of crisis, and not be able to repeat their past successes again.

Who are the Chickeneers?
Many freelancers and some of the best known agencies are fervent proponents of this approach. The names have been changed to protect the innocent.
If you work in IT the chances are that at one time or another you’ve unwittingly been a Chickeneer.
This site and futureboogie.com are two prime examples of what can be achieved by clucking around.
