While I was on a bus today I was truly amazed to see a poster for this ad campaign
the tag-line literally translates to “for irresistably beautiful armpits”.
While people in Lebanon and Iraq sweat in fear of the next explosion, in the soaring heat of Hamburg poor little rich girls are surely sweating profusely for fear of ugly armpits. Hey that’s a great marketing opportunity Bob….
I’d like to believe that this tag-line is a bit tongue in cheek but “there’s no joke coming” ... Can you imagine an adman poking fun at the absurdity of his own product? They believe their own bullshit and best you believe the hype (and feel the fear) too lest you spend your hard earned pennies on some other “necessity”! Even if it were a joke it would be a sick one. Who seriously considers for one second whether their armpits look beautiful? Or are more people into axillary intercourse than they let on?
Can it really be that people are being paid good money to use up their time and creative energies to create such odious messages for such absurd products for such an effete clientele?
Regardless of how the product might smell, to me, this type of ad stinks. When vanity turns to insanity I ask myself is the world going mad(der)? Perhaps Bill Hicks was right? . Or perhaps I’m just a cynical pontificating old wah wah who has already gone mad and is slowly losing touch with reality?
