One of the things I have had to endure from the Germans over the last few years is how awful the English food is, With taunts like “you have the worst food in the world” , “you have no taste” , “you only eat out of tins” , “your food is so loveless” , “you only eat fish and chips” , “you only eat soggy vegetables which have been boiled to death” being thrown gleefully at me from on high.

Try telling that to Herr Oliver , Frau Lawson and Herr Ramsey and their followers.

Whilst there may be some truth in those comments, not a million miles away from ye goode olde englishe faire upon which they are based, is the traditional german meal. On a good day this might consist of meat , soggy veg and gravy. Not to mention the north German love of fried fish and potatoes

A case of der Topf calling the kettle black me thinks!

German cooking has always been a disappointment, but at no time has it quite deserved its terrible reputation.

Our innovative top chefs – the outsiders – have not managed to change the fact that almost all expensive restaurants still offer the same dishes, cooked using the same recipes, with no difference in taste worth mentioning.
